How To Fix The Top 10 Organic SEO Issues That Stop You Getting Noticed On The Internet. (Issues 1 And 2 Explained):
August 5th, 2009 | by BillEgan |Post 1 of 5 – The Global Link Popularity Of Your Website and Anchor Text of Inbound Link.
Recently, The Sunday Times had an article headed….
“Firms are Investing in Search-Engine Optimisation to get Themselves Noticed on the Internet”.
The story went on……
“The hotels website Superbreak had a problem three years ago. The volume of traffic arriving at its web pages was worryingly low. Surfers were confused by cybersquatters trying to pass themselves off as the business and, to make matters worse, it shared the same name as a popular brand of American rucksacks.
Search-engine optimisation (SEO) proved to be the answer.”…
According to data published by the U.S. based “Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organisation” (SEMPO), Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO) is set to increase it’s market share from 18% of total online marketing spend to 38% in the short to medium term.
This means that professionals and website owners need to figure out how to organise and put some structure into SEO which up to now has been regarded as a black art. depending largely on luck and expensive skilled professionals.
So What Are The Top 10 Issues That Stop Websites
Attracting Traffic?
Read on to find out what are the top 10 issues that stop your website attracting traffic and how to take practical steps to address these.
Learn how you can easily identify which of these issues are hurting your website and discover how you can quickly find out what needs to be done to get quick wins.
Issue 1: The Global Link Popularity Of Your Website
How many people think that your website is important or relevant enough to link to it from their own website?
Why should anyone want to link to your website?
Is your website just a brochure website selling your company?
Does your website have any inherent value, any meaningful knowledge or analysis that other people may find useful?
The more people (or websites) that link to your website, the more authority you get from the search engines. The more authority you have the better ranking you get and ultimately the more traffic you receive for your website. Not having enough links into your website (backlinks or inlinks) is the single biggest cause of poor rankings.
Google became so popular because it consistently returned more relevant results than the other search engines. It was able to do this by measuring the quantity and quality of links into a website and compare this ‘popularity’ with other competing websites. Generally speaking, the more popular your website is the better ranking it will achieve.
Issue 2: Anchor Text of Inbound Link
All links into your website are not created equally. There are links that will give your website a huge boost and their are websites that will do little if any good for your popularity.
Let’s look at an example. Let’s look at an example, imagine that you are the owner of the website, www.interleado.com and that one of the keywords that you want to get a good ranking for is ‘internet marketing’.
Now you are starting to build links into your website, some links you have a lot of leverage/control over and some you do not. For those that you have some control over should be looking to maximise the link potential.
So, let’s say you get a link from a website that you know little about. The link they give you looks like this:
……..and then I came across Interleado, a website I found quite interesting…..
The link above is not saying anything about what Interleado does, the html for the link looks like this, < href=www.interleado.com>Interleado</a>.
Now the link is not valueless, but it could be adding much more. Let’s look at an example where you suggest to this website the link you would prefer to get:
……..and then I came across an Internet Marketing Software Company, a website full of online marketing strategies…..
Now, this is much better, there are actually three keyword phrases in and around this link. There is ‘internet marketing’, ‘online marketing strategies’ and also embedded in the link there is ‘internet marketing software company’.
The html for this link looks like this:
<a title=”Internet Marketing Software Company” href=www.interleado.com>Internet Marketing</a>
So, when you are building your links, always try to influence the link you get, the best way of doing this is by suggesting links that have your keywords in them.
Addressing the above two issues you will enable an immediate increase in your website’s online visibility and quickly lead to increased relevant traffic volume.
Did you know that on search engines, 75% of people click on organic listings on the left side of the search results page as opposed to Paid or Sponsored listings on the top and on the right hand side of the page.
And these people are 5 times more likely to convert to a customer on your website.

One of the most useful post.
As far as Organic SEO is concerned, In-bound Links plays a major role in deciding your ranking. A website with good content and link backs will get ranked on the first page of search results.

And let’s not forget the importance of the Page ranking of the site on which the link is found. A link on a highly ranked page i.e. one belonging to BBC.com is infinitely more valuable than one on a site than has no or low page ranking.
Oh, and the context of the link is also important. If the above mentioned link is featured in an article on SEO marketing, then all Kudos to you. If it’s about an article about goldfish, with a single line on SEO (OK, extreme example, I know), then it’s going to be less beneficial

The biggest issue we have is that we work in the B2B sector (telemarketing and telesales services) and there are few other sites that would want to link to us. We get occasional mentions in press articles, etc, but as we are not in an industry the wider internet community would be interested from, the number of bloggers or articles written that would even be relevant are very small.

What Jonathan (above) needs to consider is writing content for sites they’d like to get links from and donating it free, with the provision that a link back to them is included in the article text. Everyone needs more content, and this is a sound policy to pursue.

Thanks Bill, this has been really useful.
Kruse Internet Services, you mentioned writing content for other blogs – I have a similar problem to Jonathan that we’re B2B and create retail shop displays. I’ve looked for relevant blogs but haven’t been able to find them.
Can you suggest of any tricks you might have found of sourcing blogs?

Great Post. I’ve known about anchor text links, but did not know how to add a title to the post. Doubles the effectiveness of the backlink. Thanks!
