Explains The Importance of Internal Link Structure and
How to Use Keywords In Body Text.
This is part 3 of a series of posts for Website Owners wanting to implement organic SEO for their own website to fix issues that stop you getting noticed on the internet.
Issue 5: Internal Link Structure
The internal link structure of your website is your way of telling the search engines what are the most important pages on your website and also what the most important keywords for your business are.
Starting from the homepage on your website make sure that you link to all your most important pages, but make sure you optimise the link with your most important keywords.
An example of how not to link is by using the words, ..’click here’, or ‘ read more’ or, more information’ …etc – get the idea!
What does the ideal link looks like? Well, if one of my keywords is ‘ kitchen furniture’ then     my internal link to a page about Kitchen furniture, then the link will look like this (in html);
<a title=”Kitchen Furniture at the best prices” href=www.mycompany.com/kitchen-furniture.html>See our Kitchen Furniture latest deals</a>
You can see I have used the keyword in different ways and the search engine is left in no doubt what the link is about.
All internal links in your website should contain some meaningful keywords.
Issue 6: Keywords Used In Body Text
What happens when a search engine indexes your website?
How do they know what are your top keywords?
They have to rely on what they find on your webpage. So, let’s look at the different elements of your web pages, elements that the search engines give a little extra weighting to.
Headline Tag
Putting keywords in a headline tag is where you should start every page.
What’s the first thing you look at on a page? The headline right?
Well so do search engines, putting extra emphasis through a H1, H2, H3 or H4 html tag will tell the search engine that the keywords enclosed in these tags are more important than the others.
Some other writing styles that add emphasis are:
- Keywords in bold
- Keywords in bullets
- Keeping paragraphs short
- Choosing a legible font and background, ideally black text against white background
- Links in the body text to other pages and/or websites
Does this sound like it is very time consuming and something that you have not time to do ?
Are you concerned about the cost involved if you get you web design company to do this ?
