This is the traditional sales approach and it is becoming less and less relevant for the more sophisticated online buyers of 2009 and beyond.

3. The Buying Stage

    • In some cases and for commodities this may happen relatively quickly
    • For example if you are buying a printer cartridge you may not start researching until you have just about run out of ink
    • In other cases the buying decision can take many weeks or months.
    • For example a web designer thinking about adding search marketing to their service portfolio will have many considerations to think about:
      • Issues around staff training or hiring
      • Length of the learning curve to get someone skilled in seo
      • Productivity tools to minimise operating costs
      • Push back from clients on pricing
      • Difficult of convincing clients about the Return on investment
    • Drive targeted traffic to a website or blog with no advertising expenditure
    • Higher search engine visibility than your competitors
    • Higher search engine rankings
    • Attract relevant inbound links from other websites
    • Generate qualified leads for your sales pipeline
