Arguably, I think social media sites has been instrumental in helping reinforce the importance of a properly optimized website. Clearly, the trend shows that people are more inclined to participate in social community websites, so an SEO expert must stay current and offer his/her clients marketing strategies that are inline with today’s trends.

The problem is mainly due to people using automated blog commenting software in an attempt to get more backlinks. They send out generic comments to hundreds of blogs, with their keywords in the name field. It’s not very effective, simply an annoyance to blog owners.

Interesting article, but imho flawed by the assumption that most people interested in using social media are searching for the phrase “social media”. They may be, but they probably aren’t. It’s a relatively new term compared to SEO that many are not yet fully acquainted with. More significant is the fact that although the subject of SEO is also represented by numerous different terms, like “get top rankings”, “search optimization”, etc., they all refer to a single subject: search engines. Social media related searches are much more diverse, because they encompass several different disciplines. People will be searching for information about how to use YouTube, Facebook, twitter, etc., for their business.

There is no doubt that SEO and Social Media (and hence SMO) should go hand in hand. SEO will only serve to make your content as accessible as possible, to be found by those who are actually searching for what your specific content offers. This can only serve to bring more of your target market into your social sphere.

I agree that the question is a little unclear, but you’ve commented that you’re just showing the growing roar of social media. It really is about working in tandem. One reader noted branding/sales, and I think this is a pretty good explanation.

If you had a puzzle with a few giant pieces in the middle that played the majority role in the image coming together, SEO, social media, and one’s actual website would be some of those primary pieces. After that, you might have lots of small pieces on the outside that are various, specific tools helping you with any of those main online efforts.

By nature I tend to cringe at small talk and think of it as akin to mindless babbling. I am well aware that this is just a personal preference. So social media probably comes easier to those who have a gift of gab and enjoy and appreciate seeming small talk. In my mind Social Media marketing is of significant importance in the way that it impacts one’s marketing efforts online. To maximize success, it’s a good thing to take advantage of as many avenues as is possible, even the areas we tend to naturally shy away from.
